Pilgrims celebrate on Holy Island

Churches and Christian groups are being invited to join a day-long pilgrimage to Holy Island.

The island’s churches, with the North East Church Leaders Group, have been inspired by the exhibition of the Lindisfarne Gospels in Durham this summer.

They say the pilgrimage, on Saturday, July 13, will be a chance to give thanks for the life of faith in the North East for more than 1,400 years.

The keynote speaker will be the Rev Ruth Gee, chairman of the Methodist Church of Great Britain.

Admission to the main pilgrimage event in Lindisfarne Priory will be by ticket only. Each ticket holder will receive a pilgrim’s pack on the day, which will include materials for study and prayer.

Tickets cost £2.50 each and are available from.holyislandpilgrimage2013.info

The gospels were created on Holy Island around 700AD.
