Parking changes for seaside villages
Two villages on the north Northumberland coast are set to have further restrictions placed on where cars can park.
At Tuesday’s meeting of Northumberland County Council’s planning and environment committee, members agreed to replace seasonal ‘no waiting at any time’ regulations in Bamburgh and Low Newton with a year-round ban.
A report to the committee explained that in Bamburgh’s case the seasonal aspect of the restriction is considered out of date for the changing needs of both villages and that the ‘existing landscape and environment within Bamburgh is being adversely affected by the sheer number of signs’.
At Low Newton, it is claimed that the May-to-September limit ‘does not serve any significant purpose’.
In both cases, it adds that the Department for Transport is encouraging less signage clutter.
