A Northumberland fire engine is preparing to set off on a 6,000-mile journey to help make communities in Paraguay safer.
The fully-equipped Volvo appliance has been donated by Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) to International Fire and Rescue Association – a charity which arranges for the donation and delivery of firefighting equipment to countries around the world that have few resources to help protect their communities.
The fire engine had served the public of Northumberland for nearly 19 years, during which time it covered all areas of the county. This is the sixth appliance to be donated to the charity.
Alex Bennett, chief fire officer for Northumberland FRS, said: “We’re pleased to be able to support this charity, which does sterling work to help countries which are much less fortunate than ours.”
