Overnight snow causes travel chaos
Heavy snowfall has caused chaos on the roads this morning.
On the outskirts of Alnwick, the B6341 was closed in both directions at the Lion Bridge, near the Walkergate junction, after an accident involving a lorry and a bus.
The B6341 is closed between New Moor Crossroads in Edlingham and the B6344 junction in Rothbury, because of snow.
Driving conditions on the A1068 are difficult, with a number of smaller vehicles struggling in the snow and cars were being towed up Hawkhill. At one point a jackknifed lorry blocked the road.
A council gritting team was on the scene helping cars that were getting stuck but queues stretched back to Lesbury.
One driver told the Gazette that driving on the A1 in north Northumberland is ‘very difficult’.
