A commemorative plaque was unveiled in Eglingham last week to pay tribute to one of its former residents.

The family of the late Tom Young, who was born on April 19, 1931 and grew up in the village, donated £3,000 to the village for fencing to be put up around the tennis courts. And to mark the occasion, a special junior tennis competition was held last Thursday.

The plaque has been put up on the fencing and described Tom as ‘clivvor as owt’.

Family and friends attended the unveiling last week, including his widow Wendy (seated and inset), which was followed by teas in the village hall.
