Olympic fever lights up the town

OLYMPIC fever will officially hit Alnwick for the first time on Wednesday, when a fully interactive roadshow rolls into town – including a prototype of the ceremonial torch which will pass through the county next June.

The Lloyds TSB London 2012 Olympic Torch Tour will arrive in the Market Place at 10am on June 29, when visitors can have their photo taken with the torch, play interactive games and even nominate someone who has made a difference in their local community to carry the actual Olympic flame in the local leg of the Torch Relay, which arrives in Alnwick on June 14 next year.

The roadshow runs until 4pm.

A spokesman for Lloyds TSB said: “As the only national Presenting Partner for the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, we are proud to invite everybody to share the journey and nominate someone who’s made a difference, big or small, in their community to carry the Olympic Flame as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

“It could be the coach for his dedication to supporting young athletes; the neighbour who’s always helping others in their area; the teacher who runs the after-school clubs; or anyone who has made a difference to their community and inspired others.

Nominations can be made at www.lloydstsb.com/carrytheflame until September 12, 2011.
