North Sunderland Parish Council
Orangery trumps sun room
Plans to remove a sun room from a property on Main Street in North Sunderland and replace it with an orangery raised no objections from members. Coun David Davidson said: “It’s a great improvement on what’s there now.” No objections were made to the linked conservation area consent application.
Bollards in place but not right
Bollards on the landward side of St Aidan’s between Broad Road end and Shoreston Road, for which the council has waitedtwo years, have been installed – but they are the wrong ones. Concerns were raised that the spaces between them would still allow cars to park too. Coun Scott said they will be replaced.
Speed and drink police priorities
Speeding and anti-social and underage drinking are the current priorities for police in the area. PC Geoff Craddock also told the meeting that there had been three crimes since the last meeting – two assaults, both detected and one taking place in a remote cottage, and a fraud involving the changing of bank notes.
War memorial changes designed
Work is to be carried out on the war memorial to try to prevent buses from hitting the monument, which has happened several times.
Coun Scott brought a proposed design to the meeting. One side will be paid for by the bus company which hit it while members agreed the other side could be left as is.
