A number of schemes in the north of the county are set to get funding as part of works totalling £15million in the 2013/4 Local Transport Plan.
A report on the draft plan reveals that more than 323 miles of the county’s roads are in need of major work, which would cost in the region of £80million.
But among those in line for cash in the coming financial year is the A697 (surface treatment at Besom Barns and Thrunton Brickworks) while another £850,000 is set aside for carriageway refurbishment on a priority basis.
A number of other roads in north Northumberland would also get funding: Townfoot, Rothbury – £100,000; Bondgate Within, Alnwick – £50,000; Hope House Lane/Meadow Riggs, Alnwick – £140,000; Bridge Street/Church Street, Rothbury – £80,000; Fenkle Street, Alnwick – £30,000; Thropton to Trewitt Hall phase two – £80,00; New Bewick – £30,000; Embleton to Stamford phase one – £100,000; Hadston Road, Hadston (drainage) – £90,000; Grange Road, Shilbottle – £40,000.
There are also schemes in Alnwick, Alnmouth, Felton, Shilbottle and Warkworth on the reserve list.
In total, £3.8million is being spent on non-principal roads, with the largest proportion – £1.5million – being spent in the north area.
