No rest for Army as target creeps closer

Glendale Show 2012 The Flash Mob.

The summer holidays may have come to an end now, but the Jam Jar Army has not had a break as it marches on towards the £10,000 target.

And thanks to a number of sources, there is now less than £2,000 to go until we hit that target for the current beneficiary, the Alnwick Playhouse Youth Theatre.

Members of the Youth Theatre were part of the flashmob that bemused bystanders at Glendale Show on Bank Holiday Monday, and a raffle there brought in £244 for the Jam Jar Army.

Also in the last week, £123.98 came in from a collection at May’s Cafe in Seahouses while jars around the rest of the village brought in another £195.17.

All in, this takes our total past £8,000, up to a grand total of £8,320.85 – a great achievement in just seven months.

But while the money continues to come in, we still need as much support as possible to ensure that we bring in as much cash as possible for the talented youngsters of the Youth Theatre.

It offers great opportunities to around 135 budding actors, dancers and singers across the three different groups – junior, middle and senior.

While based in Alnwick, so far this year, the performances by the Youth Theatre have involved children and teenagers from Bamburgh, Seahouses, Rothbury, Eglingham, Edlingham, Morpeth, Wooler, Chathill, Embleton, Christon Bank, Longhorsley, Lesbury, Widdrington and all points in between.

We still want other businesses, organisations, families and individuals to hold collections.

Get in touch with us – on 01665 602234 or ben.oconnell@northeast-press.co.uk – if you want to get involved or have any ideas for fund-raising.

We have jam jars and stickers for decorating jars to collect at the Northumberland Gazette office.

Full jars can be dropped off at the Playhouse or the Gazette office on Bondgate Without, or the Lions bookshop on Bondgate Within.
