NEWTON THE MOOR AND SWARLAND PARISH COUNCIL

POTHOLES NEED TO BE FIXED URGENTLY

Potholes on a Swarland road need to be fixed as soon as possible, the parish council heard. Coun Helen Handyside said that because Swarland Club is now housing the shop, there is an increase in traffic which is adding to the poor state, with the road icy in the winter. But the road is not adopted by the county council which means it is unlikely they will be fixed.

DAMAGE CAUSED TO VILLAGE SPORTS FIELD

Damage has been caused to the sports field by cars driving on it. The parish council heard that marks have been left on the field in Swarland and there is concern that work may need to be done to repair it. Photographs have been taken but no culprits have yet been identified.

The parish council is to look at having a gate or some form of barrier installed to prevent unathorised access.

CONCERN RAISED AT PLANNING PROCESS

Concerns were voiced about the parish council’s planning process after some councillors felt they were undermined when comments were made on a planning application. It was felt that opinions were not being listened to.

PRECEPT RAISED BY £500 FOR 2014/15

Councillors agreed that a rise of £500 was needed for the parish precept.

At the meeting they agreed to set the budget at £16,000 for this coming financial year, compared to £15,500 last year.

It was felt that there needed to be an increase because of a number of special projects that need to be carried out by the parish council.
