POLICE INVESTIGATE THEFT AT NURSERY
A police investigation is underway after reports of thefts from Swarland’s Chester Bears pre-school. A statement read out at the parish council meeting stated that allegations of ‘substantial thefts’ had been reported to police, but that they did not relate to any current or former members of childcare staff.
FLOODING FROM DITCH AT PARK
Concerns have been raised over flooding from a ditch at Vyner Park.
A site visit has found that there is a blocked drain somewhere causing the flooding as there has been little rain but water levels were rising.
The clerk, Lisa Hamlin, who resigned at the last meeting, is to contact Northumbria Drainage.
CLUB UNDER PARISH COUNCIL CONTROL
The Swarland Sports and Recreation Club is now under the control of the parish council. After last month’s meeting, a sub-committee has taken on the running of the club and insurance is in place. However, it is closed until a risk assessment and fire survey are carried out. It has sparked a lot of interest in the village.
NEW POST OFFICE SERVICE TO START
An outreach Post Office service is to open in Swarland at the end of the month.
The service is to be run by Brian Hewson, sub postmaster at Amble Post Office and will run from 8am to noon on a Monday and Thursday. However, days may be changed subject to demand from customers.
