New website to launch in March

A new cycling website for the Northumberland National Park and beyond is launching next month.

The Cycle PaD is a one-stop online knowledge shop, bringing together everything cyclists might need to know about the county.

Supported by Northumberland National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) and Visit Northumberland, www.cyclepad.org.uk is a new social enterprise set up to coordinate cycling resources in the area.

The Cycle PaD (Portal and Directory) will provide a central point for the wealth of cycling equipment and event providers, as well as routes and guides that the National Park and the county has to offer.

Run as a not-for-profit business, with a firm commercial base for sustainability, The Cycle PaD is an information resource to assist any group, individual, business or public body to get the very best out of cycling among the best of the county’s quiet roads and stunning landscapes.

Graham Vickers, one of the directors of The Cycle PaD, said: “The SDF award has allowed us to take The Cycle PaD from a concept to a real entity. We are just beginning to develop the initiative and will be re-investing in phase 2 of the website in 2013.

“We believe that The Cycle PaD will coordinate the cycling offer in our region and also stimulate other initiatives.”

The National Park is on the map as a foremost cycling location and hosts three annual cycle challenge events, including The Wooler Wheel .

Launching next Thursday to coincide with the National Park’s 2013 Visitor Guide, The Cycle PaD will initially feature content within the National Park area, but will grow to cover all of Northumberland during 2013 with a full launch in September to lead into the county’s Northumberland: Our Active Spirit national marketing campaign in 2014.
