New support group set up

An Alnwick couple whose baby boy suffers from a joint condition have started a support group for other parents.

Neil and Gillian Osborne set up North East Talipes Support after their son Alasdair, aged 18 weeks, was born with the condition.

Commonly known as club foot, talipes causes the joints in the foot to form incorrectly. It affects around one in 1,000 children.

Alasdair has had to undergo a range of treatments, and currently needs to wear a corrective foot brace 23 hours a day.

Gillian said she and Neil decided to start the group as they very rarely got to meet parents of other sufferers.

“It’s hard to watch your baby go through this,” she said.

“We’re just trying to get it out there and get get talking to people doing the same thing.”

They have already started groups on social networking sites, and are looking at setting up support meetings. To get in touch, find North East Talipes Support on Facebook or @NETalipesSuppor on Twitter.
