RAF Boulmer’s Station Commander, Group Captain Paul Atkinson, officially opened the new Post Office in Longhoughton.

The Post Office has been relocated from 51 North End, in the village, to the Spar shop following a public consultation.

The move is the result of a partnership with ISS, who run the Spar, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and RAF Boulmer.

It is part of a national strategy to modernise the way in which the Post Office does business for the benefit of the customer.

The new location means services will be available from 7.30am to 9pm, seven days a week, and it gives greater mobility access making it a more user-friendly facility.

Further work is ongoing to improve the paths, general aesthetics and amenities at the front of the building, funded by the MOD.

Gp Cpt Atkinson said: “It is great to see the future development of the Spar. It is increasingly becoming the centre of the village, not just for the RAF, but for the community and visitors. It has been a real partnership between ISS, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation RAF Boulmer and the Spar and it is great to see the plans come to fruition.”
