A super-slimming mum has lost a whopping six stone and dropped from size 26 to 14, thanks to the support of a healthy lifestyle programme.

Marie Briggs, from Amble, has shed the weight since she started Get Active Northumberland (GAN) sessions in January last year.

Her fat-busting efforts helped her be accepted for bariatric (or weight-loss) surgery.

“It’s the best decision I’ve ever made,” said the 25-year-old reflecting on her call to attend the GAN sessions at Coquet Children’s Centre in Hadston, which are run by health improvement practitioner, James Garrity, and health trainer, Liam Ford.

Marie, who has a six-year-old son Hayden, added: “At my heaviest I was 19-and-a-half stone. I wasn’t very confident, had low self-esteem and it was having an impact on Hayden.”

But all that changed, thanks to the support of GAN, a family- fun programme for children and their parents where exercise is made enjoyable and nutritional tips are shared.

It led to Marie losing more than four stone before her weight-loss operation.

She said: “I’d shown how much I wanted to lose weight and surgeon Sean Woodcock at North Tyneside Hospital said I was the ideal candidate. Now I’ve got more energy, lost more weight and can be the mum I’ve always wanted to be to Hayden.”
