After more than a year sitting vacant, Alnwick’s second petrol station is expected to open again next month, after the site owners struck a deal.
The Northumberland Estates is extremely pleased to welcome Rontec, a leading operator in the industry with more than 200 forecourts across England and Wales, operating under the Shop’N Drive brand, to the Cawledge site.
The filling station first opened in June 2012, but closed in December after the initial tenant had a number of problems and could not meet the demand for fuel at the site,
Since then, the Estates has undertaken a rigorous process to find the right tenant, although it recognises that this has been a source of frustration for the community.
Rontec’s Shop’N Drive convenience store together with BP fuel will be available to motorists 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Colin Davidson, commercial property manager at Northumberland Estates, said: “We are disappointed it has taken so long to get the petrol station up and running, but, in Rontec, we have found the right tenant for the site and we believe they will provide the service envisaged when we first built the site.
“We wanted a company that would deliver competitive prices, reliable operations and an approach to customer service that is second to none and Rontec has a proven track record at over 200 service stations.
“We know that, as well as creating much-needed jobs for the local community, the site will also be welcomed by customers across north Northumberland.”
