New deputy lieutenant

Air-Vice Marshal David Hurrell, who lives in Alnwick and has had a long and illustrious career in the RAF, has been appointed by the Queen as Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland.

His late father Fred Hurrell was editor of the Northumberland Gazette in the 1950s.

Deputy Lieutenants are chosen by the Lord Lieutenant.
