The Fusiliers Museum at Alnwick Castle is planning to fire the opening shot in a campaign of visitor activities next Saturday.

Nicola Day, the Museum’s activities officer, said: “We’re launching our activities with a demonstration of how an 18th-century musket was fired.

The Fusiliers got their name from their ‘fusils’ or muskets, so that’s a good place to start. Lord James Percy, the Honorary Colonel of the 5th Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, Army Reserve, is going to fire the first shot, appropriately enough on the Castle’s Gun Terrace.”

The Northumberland Fusiliers in the First World War exhibition will be open on the day.
