A mother has hit out at vandals who damaged her six-year-old son’s bike, pulling off its front tyre and brake cables and bending the handle bars.

Angry Karen Morrison has questioned the mentality of the louts responsible for wrecking the cycle at The Park, on Swansfield Park Road, Alnwick.

The mother-of-four had left it there by accident overnight on Friday, June 20, and couldn’t believe her eyes when she returned to get it on the Saturday.

She is frustrated with herself for leaving the bike, but is angry by the mindless damage.

She said: “Obviously kids messing there feel the need to damage a six-year-old’s bike for fun. I am totally gutted and fuming. In my day if I’d found a bike I would have handed it in to the police.”

The bike belongs to her son Louis Scott and he used the cycle to ride to and from his school, Alnwick South. It was his first gear bike and it has gone to the town’s Cyclelife for repairs.

Karen, from Alnwick, says that the behaviour is indicative of problems at The Park and equipment in the play area is often vandalised.

She said: “After speaking to other parents, nobody feels it’s safe to go to The Park when groups are hanging about.”
