MP gets pupils on the buses
Warkworth schoolchildren who attend Amble’s James Calvert Spence College have been given a transport boost, thanks to MP Sir Alan Beith.
From September 16, youngsters living in the village will be able to catch the bus to school and arrive on time for the start of lessons.
Warkworth is too close to Amble for children to qualify for free school transport and the times on the public bus service timetable had meant that youngsters would be late for school. They were left with a long walk or bike ride or needed to rely on lifts.
Sir Alan asked the bus companies and Northumberland County Council to see if anything could be done to change the bus times. This has since been agreed, meaning pupils will be able to catch the bus into Amble in time for the start of lessons.
The X18 service – formerly the 518 – will leave Warkworth Market Place at 8.28am and arrive at Amble Fourways at 8.34am.
