Missing pensioner seen in Alnmouth as hunt goes on

Police are searching for missing 73-year-old Alexander Nicol.

Police are searching for missing 73-year-old Alexander Nicol.

Police have turned their attention to north Northumberland in their search for a pensioner who has been missing for nearly two weeks.

Alexander Stuart Nicol, 73, has not returned to his Pilgrim Court home, in Jesmond, since Friday, January 25, and extensive inquiries are being made to try to find him.

The hunt has moved north after CCTV footage has shown him getting off a bus in Alnmouth.

Police have said that on January 25, Mr Nicol caught the 10.14am X18 service from the Regent Centre in Gosforth, destined for Berwick.

He got off at a stop in Alnmouth at around 11.45am.

Officers have urged anyone who was on the same bus to contact them.

Police are also appealing for two people who may have walked past Mr Nichol, near the bridge at Hipsburn, to contact them. One of them was carrying an umbrella.

This follows another set of still CCTV images which shows a man of similar description to Mr Nicol walking west on the B1338, near Hipsburn, towards the River Aln at 4.25pm on the same day.

Superintendent Paul Orchard, of Newcastle Area Command, said: “Our search for Mr Nicol is continuing and we still want to hear from anyone who saw him. Our inquiries have led us to believe two people walking along on the B1338 near the bridge over the River Aln may have passed him and we’re urging them to get in touch.

“No matter how insignificant people think any sightings of Mr Nicol are it all helps us to build a picture of his movements and to find him.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
