Milfield man fined for drink-driving

A Milfield man has received 10 points and a fine for supervising a learner driver while over the drink-drive limit.

Berwick Magistrates Court heard that Edward Stephenson, 62, of Wheatriggs Avenue, was in the passenger seat of his son-in-law’s car on June 1 while accompanying him on a school run.

Prosecutor Jonathan Moore said the car was pulled over by police on the A697 at Akeld and found that Stephenson was more than twice the legal drink-drive limit.

When breathlysed he had with 79microgrammes of alochol in 100ml of breath, the limit being 35.

Stephenson’s licence was endorsed with 10 penalty points.

He was fined £95 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
