To celebrate the launch of the town’s new Pets at Home outlet – set to begin welcoming customers from Friday, July 22 – the company is calling on people to nominate a caring and responsible young pet owner.

The winner will be invited into the new store on Tuesday, August 2, to have a morning’s work experience where they will learn about the welfare needs of different animals. They will also get to see and hold some of the resident small animals up close.

In addition, they will receive the Pets at Home vouchers.

Alnwick’s young pet champion will be a shining example of how the five pet welfare needs – shelter; food and water; good health; appropriate company; and the right living environment – are essential for keeping pets happy and healthy.

The winner will be a child who shows a level of responsibility way beyond their years when it comes to caring for their pet or pets, whether that’s taking on essential duties involved in pet care or forming a special bond.

Store manager, Anthony Griffiths, said: “Owning a pet is often the first responsibility many children get to enjoy.

“We are looking forward hearing the great examples of responsible pet ownership from young people in the local area and celebrating the next generation of pet owners.”

To nominate a young pet owner, email [email protected] with details of why they are deserving of the title, plus their school and contact details with Alnwick in the subject before Friday, July 15.

The Alnwick store is located at Willowburn Retail Park, between the back of the Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre and Sainsbury’s car park. Recruitment for the shop has now closed.

The outlet will have a retail floorspace of more than 6,000 sq ft and a mezzanine level of more than 3,000 sq ft, which will be used for veterinary and dog-grooming services.

The development includes an associated servicing area and the provision of an additional 32 car-parking spaces (including accessible parking) to the retail park.

Pets at Home is also opening in Morpeth on Friday, July 29.
