Emergency services are on the scene of a fire at the Swarland brickworks on the A697.
Police and fire crews were called to the scene at Thrunton just before 10am.
A thick plume of black smoke is clearly visible from Alnwick Moor and Corby’s Crag on the way out of the town.
It is believed that the blaze started in a warehouse at the site, which has been closed since 2011, A Thrunton resident has told the Gazette that all the residents have been moved into one property by the emergency services so that they are all in one place if there is a need for evacuation, although he said this doesn’t appear to be a concern at present.
Plumes of black smoke can be seen from around the area with a doiminant smell of burning plastic in the air.
