Coun Adrian Hinchcliffe read out a suggested letter to send to the pub, after being told by holidaymakers that they had been informed they could stay at the site by the pub.

Coun Hinchcliffe read: ‘Longhoughton Parish Council has been working to try to resolve a number of parking issues, including camper vans/motorhomes parking overnight in the main car park on the dunes.

‘Overnight parking and camping here is not permitted and there have been signs installed. The local councillors for Boulmer do monitor parking at the car park and some people say they have been advised by the landlord at the Fishing Boat Inn that they can stay overnight. Will you please advise that it is not permitted and perpetrators will be asked to move on by Northumbria Police.’

The letter includes a number of suggested sites for overnight stays, with contact details on and said that he has a poster of these sites if the pub wishes to display it. The letter will be sent to the pub.

• County councillor for Longhoughton, Kate Cairns, has said that work to install permanent signage in Boulmer is progressing. It comes after the parish council made a request to change the signage at Boulmer North End to read ‘no public parking beyond this point’. Coun Cairns passed on this request and there is now a temporary sign. She said that this needs to be made permanent and highways will progress this.

• A family fun day, which was held at Westfield Park to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday, has been praised. Simon Buist said: “It was a very successful event. Congratulations to the organisers – a lot of people appreciated it.” Coun Eleanor Phillips said it would be returning next year and the 2017 event would be ‘bigger and better’.

• Coun Phillips said that there has been fly-tipping at the quarry.

• The next Longhoughton Parish Council meeting will be on Monday, September 19, in Howick Village Hall at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
