Lend a helping hand at railway

Green-fingered volunteers are wanted to lend a hand during a tree planting and gardening weekend on part of a heritage railway.

Those involved with the Aln Valley Railway will be planting 420 Woodland Trust saplings at the development’s Lionheart site in Alnwick on Saturday and Sunday.

If there is time, then borders and other areas will be prepared for the coming season.

The aim is to start at 10.30am each day. Volunteers can give as much or as little time as they want.

There are no tools on site so bring equipment and wear suitable outdoor clothing and refreshments.

Two more planting weekends – on March 23/24 and a date in April to be decided – are planned for hedge planting.
