A volunteer for more than 50 years, Thropton’s Jean Boyle said she was ‘privileged to have the honour of carrying the Torch’.

Completing two legs of the relay, the 74-year-old said: “Fifty metres from the end I was asked to hurry up in case the gas ran out - my legs were like jelly by that point.”
