This happy couple are toasting a Valentine’s Day engagement, after an eye-catching proposal in the Northumberland Gazette.

Delighted bride-to-be Kelly Gair could not quite believe it when she saw partner Bruce Durham’s romantic gea

sture – a full page ‘will you marry me?’ advert in the February 14 edition of the paper.

The notice came complete with a giant heart and Kelly’s name at the top in pink writing.

And it certainly made the perfect impression.

Kelly, 35, said: “ I couldn’t believe it. I was laughing and crying at the same time.

“Although I have to admit, I missed it at first. I thought it was just an advert for Valentine’s Day but Bruce told me to turn back and my name was at the top. I thought it was a joke and then he went down on one knee.

“I couldn’t believe he had gone to that extent and the fact it was actually on Valentine’s Day made it even more special.

“He also had the ring made.”

Mother-of-four Kelly was also touched that Bruce, 33, had asked her three older children, Sophie, 18, Jack, 17, and John, 14, for their permission.

The pair, who are from Amble, also have youngster Bonnie, aged two.

The couple, who have been together for three years, haven’t confirmed plans for the wedding.

Kelly has been bombarded by good wishes from people who saw the proposal in the paper.

“It’s unbelievable,” she said.
