It’s an inspiring evening where runners really get into the spirit of the race, turning the largest earthwork sculpture in Europe pink with their tutus, wings, wigs and painted faces.

Race organisers Northumberland Sport, in partnership with Northumberland Wildlife Trust, have set a challenging 5km (three-mile) route designed to allow competitors to run, jog or walk around and through the stunning landform of a reclining woman,.

The event is a great opportunity for women to prove that whatever their size, ability or previous experience, sport can be a fun and enjoyable part of their everyday lives, while raising proceeds and awareness for a fantastic cause.

Cancer Research UK’s local fund-raising manager, Carolyn Reynolds, said: “One in two of us will hear the devastating words ‘I’m sorry, you have cancer’ at some point in our lives.

“Today, and every day, around 910 people will be diagnosed with cancer. These people aren’t strangers; they’re our workmates, our friends, our family.

“Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research.

“The research centre in Newcastle is just one of 15 across the UK that are accelerating progress on improved treatment and more effective cures for cancer, bringing forward the day when all cancers can be cured.

“Thanks to research, cancer survival has doubled in the last 40 years, with one in two now beating their disease.

“But there is still so much to do, and that’s why events like this are so essential, because we rely entirely on the public to fund our important work.”

She added: “Everyone’s welcome. Maybe you’d like to run as a team with a group of friends or you want to support a friend, family member or colleague with cancer by helping to raise money for new, ground-breaking treatments.

“Or maybe you’d like to remember someone with your run.

“Whatever the reason, we’d love to see you.”

To join in, register at www.northumberlandsport.org.ukEntry is £10 for adults, £7 for children, and spectators are welcome on the evening too.
