Judy Tribe with Zoe Gilroy, Milli Ellaby, Kate Lawson, Rhianna Bates, Paige Howie, Aaron Yarborough and Chrs Richardson, members of the Alnwick Playhouse Youth Theatre celebrate reaching the Jam Jar Army 10,000 target.

The Jam Jar Army’s second march has been as succesful as the first, as 2012’s campaign makes it past the £10,000 mark.

This year’s efforts are for the Alnwick Playhouse Youth Theatre, and the youngsters involvedhave thrown themselves into the fund-raising, ably supported by the community.

And it means that in under two years, the Army has raised nearly £25,000 for good causes in the north of the county, after more than £13,000 was raised last year for HospiceCare North Northumberland.

Judy Tribe, from the Youth Theatre, admitted she was thrilled to have soared past the £10,000 target.

“Initially, the task seemed enormous, but with help and tremendous support from so many local people, the challenge has been met,” she said.

“It is very good to know the future of the Youth Theatre has been secured for now, offering local children the chance of fun theatrical experiences.”

Gazette editor Paul Larkin praised Judy and all the Youth Theatre members, adding: “This is a fantastic achievement and we have made it to £10,000 in double-quick time. But this doesn’t mean that it’s over, we want to raise as much cash as possible and will be continuing until the end of the year.”
