Jessie J show ‘will go on’ despite the downpours

Organisers of this month’s Jessie J concert in Alnwick are determined the show will go on despite the persistent dire weather.

While the rain put paid to the prestigious Great Yorkshire Show earlier this week, Keith Louch, of promoter KAL Music Ltd, told the Gazette he is working hard with Northumberland Estates, which is hosting the sell-out gig at the Pastures, to resolve problems caused by the storms.

“It will take an awful lot for us to cancel the show, so I am still confident it will go ahead,” he said. “We’ve had a meeting of the safety advisory group and the big issue is getting cars in and out of the Pastures.

“But if it means spending £15-£20,000 on trackway and straw then we will.

“The arena is very wet but we can move the stage further up the hill away from the worst of it – there’s plenty of room.

“I have to say that the Duke has been very supportive and helpful in getting the issues resolved.”

The organisers are also looking at alternative parking arrangements, including a park and ride scheme.

Rumours have been circulating on social media outlets that the concert has been cancelled but Keith said there was no truth in them.

All 12,000 tickets for the event were snapped up within days of their release at the end of April.

Previous concerts have also been blighted by bad weather, most notably the Magic of the 80s show in 2007 when torrential downpours turned the Pastures into a quagmire and concertgoers found themselves knee-deep in mud.

KAL Music also confirmed Jessie J’s support acts would be the same as her gig at Shrewsbury on Friday – A*M*E, a 17-year-old pop singer signed to Gary Barlow’s record label, and Welsh singer Jay James Picton, who recently supported Rebecca Ferguson.
