National Trust celebrity walks Low Newton, Northumberland- Val McDermid, crime writer

BEST-SELLING crime writer Val McDermid has nominated a walk in north Northumberland as the best in the country.

She reckons the stroll at Low Newton by the Sea should come out on top in the National Trust’s search for the nation’s favourite walk.

As part of the National Trust’s nationwide Festival of Walking taking place this week, which is sponsored by PruHealth, eight celebrity supporters have nominated their favourite Trust routes across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The celebrities’ walks cover more than 30 miles and range from sweeping parkland and rugged coastline to a route through the spectacular scenery of the Lake District.

The search is hoping to inspire everyone, whatever their age or ability, to get out and explore the amazing outdoor places cared for by the National Trust,

The Trust is encouraging people to submit their own favourite walks to the search.

This week you can join the debate online at www.nationaltrust.org.uk./walkingfestival where you can watch videos of the stars lobbying for their chosen walk.

Everyone who nominates their own favourite will be entered into a prize draw to win National Trust walking boots.
