Inn goes the whole hog

A north Northumberland inn has been awarded the highest rating by the Food Standards Agency for its food hygiene standards.

The Hog’s Head Inn just off the A1 in Alnwick has been granted five stars by the agency’s scheme, which helps people eating out discover whether the restaurant, takeaway or food shop they wish to eat at or buy food from has high standards of hygiene.

General manager Sean Donkin said: “The scheme looks at the whole organisation and how food is looked after from the farm to the fork.

“Where food has come from, how it is delivered, cooked and served all come under scrutiny during the inspections.

“As well as enjoying great-tasting food, customers can rest assured that the food they eat at The Hog’s Head Inn has been completely safely managed in a carefully-controlled quality and safety system.

“The food here is extremely safe and the team here fully understand how to look after it.”
