In memory of Robert
Money collected at a funeral for a man who died in a car crash will help to fund a wheelchair for a young person in the North East.
Robert Blakey, son of former Alnwick Mayor Eileen Blakey, died in an accident on the A697 in November.
The 27-year-old, from Whittingham, was killed when his Rover 25 came off the road, near Longframlington, and collided with a tree.
Donations at his funeral were split between two charities – Whizz-Kidz and the Sir William Leech Research Team. Each received £280.
Now Eileen has heard that the money has been used to help another young person.
Whizz-Kidz has told her that the money will pay for a paediatric therapist to assess a young person before a new wheelchair is delivered.
This gives a disabled person the right equipment for their condition.
She said she was grateful that the money has been used for such a worthy cause.
