A north Northumberland woman has celebrated her 103rd birthday.

Marjorie Ormston, a resident at Broomhill’s Heatherdale Residential Care Home, had a party at the home to help mark the occasion. The staff dressed up, the birthday girl enjoyed a glass of sherry and a dance, and there was also a cake.

Marjorie also had a separate celebration with her family the day after the party.

Born in West Thirston on August 26, 1909, Marjorie was one of five sisters.

She lived in West Thirston until she was 98, when she moved into Heatherdale.

Marjorie married James Ormston in Felton in 1935. He passed away in 1986, aged 79.

She has one son, Keith, as well as three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In the early 1960s, she founded the Thirston Over 60s Club and was secretary for 30 years.

Marjorie used to homebake, as well as making and icing wedding cakes.
