A disabled man who is fighting to move to a more suitable home feels his pleas have been ‘justified’ – after falling down a flight of stairs.

Last month, we reported how former Royal Marine Fred Luck, who has severe mobility problems, was desperately seeking a move to a more appropriate property.

The 52-year-old stenosis sufferer currently lives in a first-floor flat in Dansfield Square, Amble, but says he needs a bungalow or ground-floor home.

Fred said his property was a stop-gap, with a view to moving into a more suitable house, but accused Northumberland Homefinder of ‘neglecting’ him, claiming the housing allocation service was not returning his calls and not helping him.

And now, Fred has been involved in an accident at his house, after falling down the stairs. He had to go to hospital and is suffering from pain in his neck, back and left shoulder.

“Maybe I should change my first name from Fred to ‘out of flippin’...” he said.

“I was taking some rubbish out and got tangled up in my walking stick and fell down about four or five stairs and ended up on the landing.

“I feel this has justified what I’ve been saying about needing to move. If I had been in a bungalow, for instance, I would have fallen onto the carpet instead.”

He said he had spoken to somebody a few weeks ago about filling out a housing application form, but is having trouble completing it.
