A north Northumberland hotel is investing £150,000 into converting its original coach house into luxury self-contained accommodation.
Once completed, it will mean Doxford Hall Hotel, near Alnwick, will have a total of 34 bedrooms, as well as its existing conference and wedding facilities. Further investment is planned for the summer to upgrade the spa.
The expansion and investment is as a direct result of a 17 per cent growth in business during the last six months.
Within the last year, the hotel has been awarded the coveted four Red Star status, received two AA Rosettes for its restaurant and was shortlisted for Small Hotel of the Year.
General manager Mark Booth said: “The tourism business can be challenging, especially during the winter months.
“As a team, we continually work hard to ensure we maximise occupancy year round so we are delighted that we are seeing business growth in all areas including private parties, local corporate events and weddings.
“During the last three months, it has been especially encouraging to see confidence returning to the business sector, which is resulting in resurgence in the conference markets.
“The success that we have achieved over this year is in no small part due to the commitment and hard work from all the staff. A hotel of this size relies on the very best of local staff for the very best of local hospitality for our customers.”
The hotel employs more than 40 members of staff.
