Homes plan on show today

Plans for a major housing development in Alnwick go on show to the public today at the town’s cricket club.

As revealed in the Gazette last week, Northumberland Estates has announced proposals for a residential development consisting of about 225 properties – 30 per cent of which would be affordable – at Greensfield, to the south of the town centre.

It will be sited next to a £1.5million scheme to transform Alnwick’s sports facilities, which received planning permission in March last year.

The Estates has also offered a section of land close to the development as a potential location for the proposed rebuild of the Duchess’s Community High School.

A statement from the Estates last week explained that it is ‘responding to demand for high-quality private and affordable housing in Alnwick’.

It will provide affordable homes for young people, larger family housing and accessible homes for the elderly.

The company, which represents the business interests of the Duke of Northumberland, has appointed award-winning architects Ian Darby Partnership and landscape architects Fairhurst to progress the development.

The public exhibition for the proposals takes place at Alnwick Cricket Club, on Weavers Way, today between 4pm and 7pm.
