Homes evacuated in Rothbury

Around 30 homes have been evacuated in Rothbury as flood waters continue to rise.

Gazette reporter Robert Brooks is on the scene in the village where the Coquet has burst its banks and the water is breaching the flood barrier.

Residents of Armstrong Cottages and The Maltings have been evacuated to the Jubilee Hall.

The flood barrier is up outside Armstrong Cottages but the water has now breached the barrier.

The road there is closed and there is no getting on or out of Rothbury in that direction.

There are also reports of two houses being completely flooded at Netherton, despite the recent installation of a flood channel.
