A homeless man has been moved on after sleeping rough in Felton, leaving five bin bags of rubbish behind.
At Monday’s monthly parish meeting, councillors heard that a young man had been found camping out on the recreation field.
The discovery was made when councillors and the police visited the area to look at sites where drink and drugs were being taken.
The parish council served notice on the 20-year-old, on June 26, tying a letter to his tent, asking him to clean up the area and leave within seven days.
Clerk Lisa Hamlin visited the area two days later and spoke to the man.
She said: “He said he was in touch with Barnabus in Morpeth to find accommodation and they were sorting him.
“He promised to be away by the following Thursday and when we visited he has gone , but left behind a huge amount of rubbish. It was strewn everywhere – I lost count of the number of Calvin Klein pants I had to pick up.”
Concerns were raised after the police told the council it was a civil matter.
Coun Marion Clark said: “They didn’t know how old he was and if he needed help.”
Chairman Coun Stephen Walton said: “The important thing is that it seems he is getting the right assistance.”
