Hillbilly theme for bluegrass barn dance

A north Northumberland farming family are arranging a barn dance with a difference – it will be a ‘hillbilly barbecue’, with a country and western theme.

Stoker Frater and his sons Mark and Richard, of Abberwick Farm near Alnwick, are holding the charity event in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute (RABI), on September 14.

Mr Frater senior is chairman of the Northumberland division of the RABI, while the family have a particular affection for the Air Ambulance after it was called to help a family member who had been taken ill.

“She wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for it,” said Mark.

Cowboy fancy dress is optional, and there will be live music from bluegrass band the Kentucky Cow Tippers, as well as a hog roast.

Tickets are £10 in advance. Contact 01665 574209, or Mark on 07974 715894.
