A call for volunteers is being made to help transform the property’s back garden, to fulfil dreams of creating an outdoor sanctuary for Aidan.

The family want to turn the plot, which is wildly overgrown, into a relaxing spot with a sensory area and decking.

The mission to tackle the eyesore space is already under way and it is expected that a JCB will carry out vital clearance work over the next couple of days.

But we are making an appeal for recruits to come forward next week to help remove any debris which is left.

The Gazette’s gardening correspondent Tom Pattinson has agreed to meet any volunteers at Aidan’s Fire Station Cottages home, in Alnwick, on Wednesday from 10am.

Tom said: “We are looking for people to come and see the site and see what needs doing and help lift any of the smaller stones or pick up any debris which has been left by the JCB.”

Anyone who can help next Wednesday should call James Willoughby at the Gazette on 01665 602234 prior to turning up at the house.
