Dog trainers will be keeping warm on cold nights thanks to a project by Alnwick school pupils.

As part of a design technology project, students at Lindisfarne Middle School were tasked to make a fleece hat, from design to completion.

As a further challenge, teacher Adele Whittemore suggested they make hats for the North Northumberland Dog Training Club, of which she is a member.

The project snowballed and a group got together and sourced materials in the club colours, made the template, some with ears, some with tassles, and also priced the items. The hats were presented to the dog training club at a special presentation last week.

The hats will be worn by club members when they are doing the various displays when the weather requires them.

Jacquie Hall, chairman of the club, based at West Moor near Felton, said: “I used to be involved in garment manufacture and it is a process of many stages from the original design concept to the final packaging and these pupils did it all. I was also impressed by their confidence and courtesy at the presentation. They are a credit to the school.”
