Growing tribute to popular gardeners

TWO popular gardeners from Rothbury have had a flower bed in the village designed in their memory.

Amanda Boyce and Brian Hardy both spent many hundreds of hours tending to the floral displays in Rothbury.

The parish council for which they worked felt it would be a fitting tribute to have their names planted out into the beds to acknowledge the esteem in which they were both held and in appreciation for all they did to keep the village looking at its best.

The flower bed was designed and created by Alnwick District Council's green-fingered horticultural workers who are responsible for many of the beautiful flower beds and floral displays around the district.

Parish councillor Helen Edes said: "Amanda was extremely well thought of by so many local residents and her death really shocked and saddened the local community.

"Brian worked for the parish council, but always insisted he looked after the memorial bed in Rothbury on a voluntary basis.

"He would not take any money for tending to it, saying he wanted to do it in remembrance of the people who died.

"Now it is our turn to remember Brian and Amanda."
