Group to bring in tenant scrutiny

A housing association has been working with customers to introduce tenant scrutiny across its estates in Northumberland.

A panel will be set up in the coming months, comprising eight tenants and two independent members. It will be responsible for assessing the performance of Berwick Borough Housing in key areas identified as a priority for customers.

The project aims to give tenants more power in holding the provider accountable for its decisions, services and conduct.

Bernie Hogg, the operations manager at Berwick Borough Housing, said: “The principle behind this new approach is to create a fundamental shift towards customers being in control of their own housing services.

“We will be consulting with our residents and tenant groups over the next few months to incorporate their views into how the panel operates.”
