Green holiday park in the pipeline

A NEW holiday park and touring caravan site could soon be on its way to north Northumberland if plans get the go-ahead.

The application has been submitted to create the new accommodation on the edge of the A1 at West Thirston, next to Burgham Park Golf Club.

It consists of 21 two-bedroom and 15 three-bedroom holiday lodges with nine touring caravan pitches, a manager’s lodge, shop, reception, amenity block and play area.

The site, which will be called Elm Park, will be screened by landscaping and a footbridge and access road will be put in.

Speaking on behalf of the applicant, Clive Milner, agent Gary Swarbrick said: “It is our intention to provide an eco-friendly development of 36 log cabins and nine touring caravan pitches that will sit comfortably within the wider landscape setting through the implementation of a comprehensive landscaping scheme.

“Elm Park will accommodate log cabins built to the very latest standards using only sustainable materials and the biodiversity value of the site will be promoted through the provision of a number of nature walks throughout the site and a dedicated nature area.

“Elm Park will also offer cycle hire to allow visitors to the site to explore all that this part of Northumberland has to offer.”

If approved ,the holiday park will create two full-time and six part-time jobs.

Mr Swarbrick added: “The scheme has been developed with a team of ecology, landscape, highways, arboricultural and planning specialists to ensure the delivery of a high-quality holiday park development at Elm Park, which respects the nature conservation value of the site and is well integrated into the wider landscape setting.”
