Grants offered to Glendale students

Former pupils of Glendale Middle School who are going on to study at university or college are being invited to apply for grants from a Wooler education fund.

Small grants to help with the purchase of books or equipment are being offered by the Robson Patterson Ancrum Endowment Fund which was set up in 1965 to support former pupils of the Wooler school.

The trust was originally created with money collected as a retirement gift for the school’s first head teacher Aidan Robson. It has since been added to by a legacy from the late Jackie Patterson and donations from Roy and Helen Ancrum.

“Roy, who was a deputy headteacher at the school, died last year but he maintained a strong interest in the trust throughout his retirement,” said the trust’s chairman Barbara Rattcliff.

“Sadly, this year has also seen the resignation of the trust’s secretary, Ian Thompson. Ian did a splendid job and we will miss him greatly.”

Any former Glendale Middle School pupil who would like to apply for one of the grants should send their name and contact details, information about the course and the college or university and a couple of sentences about themselves to Barbara Rattcliff, c/o The Cheviot Centre, Padgepool Place, Wooler, NE71 6BL.

Applications should be made by November 30, 2012.
