A civic funeral will be held tomorrow for councillor John Taylor, who died last week.
A service will take place at St Paul’s RC Church, in Alnwick, at 1.30pm, followed by a private cremation.
John, 77, represented the Longhoughton ward on Northumberland County Council and was a former leader of Alnwick District Council.
Living in Denwick, he was also a parish councillor and passed away at home last Wednesday morning.
John was also chairman of the county council’s north area planning committee.
Last Thursday, at a meeting of the committee in Alnwick, a minute’s silence was held in his memory.
Prior to the silent tribute, acting chairman Coun Dougie Watkin paid his respects to John, a ‘great people person who could talk to anybody’.
“He was a person who lived for the countryside at all levels and he was very proud to be a citizen of Northumberland,” said Coun Watkin.
“John furthered this county’s interests whenever and wherever he could.
“His real heart was in this county and he did his best to enhance and improve Northumberland and that is a legacy that we can be very proud of being a part of.”
And at the north area committee on Monday night, it was agreed to send a letter of condolences to his family.
The family has requested no flowers, but donations can be made to HospiceCare North Northumberland.
