Former Far East PoW dies, aged 93

Eric Lomax, the author of the best-selling The Railway Man which detailed his harrowing experiences as a Japanese prisoner of war working on the Burmese ‘death railway’, died this week, aged 93, in Berwick.

His death came as the film of his book starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth is nearing completion.
