Flooding hits north Northumberland

Heavy rain overnight has led to flooding in parts of north Northumberland.

The River Coquet has burst its banks in Rothbury and homes have been flooded.

There are also reports of the Aln bursting its banks and flooding fields at Hawkhill and also at Whittingham.

On the roads, the A1 is covered with standing water between the Swarland and Newton on the Moor junctions and traffic is moving very slowly.

There are also reports of pools of water on the A1068 at Warkworth.

The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for the River Coquet at Brinkburn and Weldon, at Warkworth and at Felton.

A lesser flood alert has been issued for the coastal rivers in Northumberland including the Aln and the Waren Burn.
